New Acquisitions - San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts

The first public exhibition of nearly 40 new additions to the museum’s collection, including an important gift of works on paper by Otis Dozier and Velma Davis Dozier from Denni Davis Washburn. Ranging from early Texas prints and drawings to contemporary painting and sculpture, the gifts featured in this exhibition have enriched and broadened the museum’s collections of Texas art and Ceramic art, two of SAMFA’s focus areas of collecting.

The exhibition also includes works by Xavier Gonzalez (museum purchase with funds from Anne Shahan), Roger Allen and Akio Takamori (gifts of Pam Bladine in memory of Roger Allen), Jack Earl (a gift of John Williams), and Lee Albert Hill, Jesús Toro Martinez, Connie Connally, Tom Coleman and Frank Boyden (gifts of the artists).

Towards a 21st Century Abstraction

Eventide, 35” x 35”, oil on canvas

Curated by Peter Frank, LA Art Critic
Organized by Connie Connally

I am very proud to be a leader for our group, 21st Century Abstraction and in the creation of our traveling exhibition, Towards a 21st Century Abstraction.

21C is made up of seven masterful painters working in studios across the country. Their works have been exhibited and collected extensively across the United States and internationally. They include Connie Connally, Wosene Kosrof, Brad Ellis, David Bailin, Jeri Ledbetter, Katherine Chang Liu, and Sammy Peters. These seven artists come from seven diverse backgrounds, have seven differing techniques, but all have an abiding sense of trust that their work contributes to the continued value of abstraction in this century.
